Hemarexin

Iron is critical for normal hemoglobin synthesis to maintain oxygen transport. Manganese is a cofactor in many enzyme systems. It is concentrated in mitochondria, primarily of pituitary gland, pancreas, liver, kidney and bone. Copper is an essential trace element although severe copper deficiency, which is associated with anemia.

PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Indications:

The prevention and treatment of iron-deficiency anemia such as hypochromic anemia associated with pregnancy, breastfeeding infants, children, chronic or acute blood loss, dietary restriction, metabolic disease and post-surgical convalescence.

Dosage:

Curative treatment:

– Adults: 2 – 4 ampoules/day

– Children, breastfeeding infants: 5 – 10 mg iron/kg/day.

Preventive treatment:

Pregnant women: 1 ampoule/day.

Usage:

Hemarexin is administered orally. The contents of the ampoule can be diluted with water (with sucrose in infants). It should be taken before meals, divided several times a day.

  • Known hypersensity to any of the active substance or excipients.
  • Hemochromatosis and hemosiderosis.
  • Evidence of iron overload.

Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dark stools and abdominal pain.

Occasional gastrointestinal discomfort (such as nausea) may be minimized by taking with meals.

Excessive tea intake may inhibit iron absorption.

For the teeth are not blackened, avoid keeping drug long in mouth.

Preventive treatment of iron deficiency in children by applying premature the diet more variously.

Administration of iron for longer than 6 months should be avoided except in patients with continued bleeding, menorrhagia, or repeated pregnancies.

Hemarexin contains sodium benzoate which may increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in newborn babies (up to 4 weeks old).

Hemarexin contains sucrose (saccharose), may be harmful to the teeth.

Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. It contains 4 g sucrose/ 10 ml. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Routine prophylactic iron supplementation currently is recommended for all pregnant women. Ask doctor before use for breastfeeding women.

Patients should be aware of how they react to drug before driving or operating machinery.
