PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Indications

  • Treatment of Herpes simplex virus infection of the skin including initial and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis.

Dosage

  • Apply 5 times daily at 4-hour intervals during the day. Treatment should be continued for 5 days, following by a further 5 days treatment if healing has not occurred.

Usage

  • Apply a thin film of cream to the infected and immediately adjacent skin areas.

Known hypersensitivity to any of the active substance or excipients.

  • Topical application of acyclovir may produce transient stinging, burning, itching or erythema.
  • Treatment should be initiated as soon as possible after the start of the infection, ideally during the prodromal period or when the lesions first appear.
  • Wash your hands before and after applying the cream and avoid unnecessary rubbing of the lesions or touching with a towel, to avoid aggravating or transferring the infection.
  • Not to be applied to mucous membranes such as inside the mouth or vagina, or on the eye. Avoid contact with the eye.
  • Not recommended for use by patients who know they are immunocompromised, except on the advice of a doctor.
  • Avoid close contact with individuals experiencing signs or symptoms of Herpes simplex (HSV) infections.
  • Safety and efficacy of acyclovir cream have not been established in children younger than 12 years of age.
  • Pregnancy: only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Lactation: only when indicated.
  • Acyclovir cream has no influence on the ability to drive or operate machinery.
